Project Year 2 Semester 2
Building with wood in the U.S. is nothing new, however mass timber structures have not become the norm, despite the many advantages. During this semester extensive research was done on mass timber building and implementation was mandatory.
With my project partner, ‘Bridging Views’ explores brutalist architecture with a mass timber structure for a co-working and community building. Connecting to rectangular buildings using sky bridges and adding an auditorium that connected the site with the bridge next to the project. The facade became a passion project on its own, inspired by traditional and common ‘stick frame’ way of building in the United States. The density of which was based on the shading necessary on the direction the facade is facing. This project was designed starting on campus in person, then when the pandemic hit, it was finished and presented remotely.
